WOMEN RIGHTS
A Fisherwomen Head Load Fish Vendor’s Federation – FHVF has been formed with representation of women and transgender people from 159 Fisherwomen Head Fish Vendor Groups and has a membership of 2120
408 members of Fisherwomen Head Load Fish Vendors Federation (FHVF) provided with vital information about their social, legal and occupational rights and equipped with skills to combat exploitations as Gender Perspective Leaders of the community.
Women Rights Committee formed with representation of head load fish vendors from 15 villages.
12 seminars, 8 workshops and 3 campaigns conducted on women and transgender rights based issues.
2300 women developed leadership qualities through participation in trainings.
608 members of the community, consisting of women head load fish vendors, school dropout women and girls gained functional literacy and legal literacy thereby facilitating empowerment.
WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
FHVF provided with an auto rickshaw for fish transportation and 3 Fish Storage Tanks.
500 head load fish vendors engaged in processing surplus fish and marketing value added products and earning an additional income of INR 4000 on an average per month.
658 women head load fish vendors freed from their indebtedness to local money lenders through provision of microcredit and financial management related trainings.
Collective Training cum Business Centre established for benefit of 100 women head load fish vendors
120 school dropouts (girls and young women) have been provided vocational training in meaningful trades and skills, namely fish processing, garment embroidery and sanitary napkin making, and now are on an average earning INR 5000 per month.
1980 women and 40 transgender of the Mukkuvar fisher folk community have been organized into 101 SHGs and linked with the banking system.
780 women and transgender people from the fisher folk have been provided insurance cover thus ensuring life and livelihood security.
ENVIRONMENT & ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
100 hectares of estuarine environment has been protected and promoted.
Estuarine Ecosystem Interpretation Centre established.
Environmental justice has been ensured by appointing women of the local fisher folk communities as caretakers of the mangroves.
Grassroots level adaptation to climate change and mitigation of effects of climate change being carried out in 8 coastal villages.
DISASTERS
Disaster Preparedness Committees formed in 8 coastal villages and Contingency Plans developed.
- Psycho social support was extended to 128 families affected
- 62 affected families were rehabilitated through livelihood restoration by providing skill trainings and micro credit.
HOUSING
New housing provided to families of 25 poor head load fish vending women. All houses are provided with sanitary toilets, Rainwater Harvesting systems, Biogas and Kitchen gardens
HEALTH & HIV/AIDS
17 free cancer awareness & screening camps have been conducted benefitting 2215 women and transgender people .
832 children and 300 head load fish vendors have been provided awareness on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
CHILDREN & EDUCATION
1500 young girls guided through the yearly career guidance program.
3 Childcare Learning Centers cater to 150 school going children of women head load fish vendors each year.
350 children participate in Children Parliament.

Purified Drinking Water to Poor Fisherwomen Family
Women WATSAN Committee
Women WATSAN Committee was formed with 10 members including
representatives of beneficiary families, parish councils and OCD management.
The members were given orientation about the project objectives and their
roles and responsibilities.
Construction Of RO Purified Drinking Water Tanks
8 Purified Water Tanks with RO/Aqua water filtering system were constructed
and hand overed to 3 coastal villages name as Melmidalam, Midalam and
Kotilpadu. 240 families are benefitted by this project.
